Beyond the Blue Border
GDR, August 1989: Hanna and Andreas became a target of the secret police and had to give up their plans for their future studies and desired professions. Instead, they face arbitrariness, mistrust and reprisals. Their only chance for a self-determined life lies in fleeing across the Baltic Sea. Fifty kilometres of water separate them from freedom - and only a thin connecting rope around their wrists saves them from absolute loneliness.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film constructs a gripping narrative that relies on the fragility of the human body against the elements and the cold machinery of a repressive state. It explores not just a physical escape, but a profound psychological rupture.
What lingers after viewing is a visceral sense of the weight of freedom and the immense cost of a self-determined life. The vast, indifferent sea becomes the ultimate arena for a intimate drama of survival. — MovieFinder Editorial
