Yumi has managed a boarding house alone for seven years since her husband's death. Her tenants form an odd ensemble: Osaki, a perpetual exam failure; former yakuza Yoneda and Yamaguchi; and her daughter Miyuki. On the seventh anniversary, dressed in mourning clothes, she seeks solace by speaking to her late husband in her room. This private ritual is shattered when Osaki becomes an accidental voyeur, witnessing Yumi convulse in a climax of lonely ecstasy as she communes with the ghost of her marriage.
