Cantinflas, a porter who still attends school, earns extra money by typing letters and speeches on his old machine. His world revolves around his beautiful neighbor, who is confined to a wheelchair. When a young soldier also falls for her, Cantinflas devises a selfless plan. He becomes a secret Cyrano, composing eloquent love letters signed with the soldier's name, while secretly betting on horse races to fund the operation that could allow her to walk again.
