I Never Shot Anyone

2020 · 100 min Comedy
7.0 / 10 · TMDB

Renji Ishibashi, starring in the movie for the first time in 18 years, plays a hero with two faces, a dull novelist and a legendary killer. Susumu Ichikawa, an obsolete writer with no manuscript at all, had another face - a legendary hitman. But the truth of the matter is... he had never shot a person. One day, he receives a murder request from a friend. Seeing this as an opportunity to achieve the ideal hard-boiled novel, he decides to hire a real hitman and demands that he report to him the assassination situation as it was.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film thrives on the brilliant contrast between the grotesque image of a legendary hitman and the comical helplessness of the 'hero' himself. The humor is dark yet elegant, stemming from the absurdity of the situation and Renji Ishibashi's superb performance, equally convincing as both a feeble writer and a frightening shadow from the past.

What lingers after the credits is a clever deconstruction of crime genre clichés, where every hard-boiled twist reveals a new layer of situational comedy. It's a tale not about a killer, but about a creative block mistaken for something grander. — MovieFinder Editorial
