On the slopes of Prague's Petřín Hill, the lives of ordinary people intertwine in post-war Czechoslovakia. Jan, a young laborer yearning for a better future, encounters Marie, the daughter of a local gardener. Their budding romance confronts the harsh realities of social divides and familial duties.
