The Lizard
Petty criminal Reza, serving a prison sentence, stumbles upon a clergyman's robe. Seeing a chance for freedom, he dons the disguise and escapes into the world. Yet life in clerical garb proves unexpectedly complex—instead of reverence, he meets public indifference and scorn. Heading for a remote village as a stepping stone to flee the country, Reza is mistaken for a genuine man of faith by the locals. They welcome him into their community, entrusting him with their spiritual needs and expecting him to perform religious duties, forcing the impostor into an unforeseen moral dilemma.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
‘Marmoulak’ expertly walks the line between sharp social satire and poignant human drama, using its comedic premise to explore hypocrisy, faith, and unexpected redemption. Parviz Parastui delivers a captivating performance as the rogue gradually transformed by the weight of the trust placed in him.
What lingers after the final scene is a quiet reflection on how the masks we wear can reshape our souls, and how a role assumed out of deceit might lead to genuine purpose. — MovieFinder Editorial

A contrast-rich, sun-drenched yet shadowy portrayal of provincial Iran, where the sacred and the mundane intimately coexist.
