When the Pheasants Pass

1965 · 89 min Comedy
6.4 / 10 · TMDB

Arsène Baudu and Hyacinthe, a pair of small-time crooks, fall prey to Alexandre Larsan-Bellac, who involves them (against their will) in high-profile swindling, but their success is quite limited. For starters they are deceived by Mrs. Paterson, a charming widow. Later on, Ribeiro, a Portuguese contractor and former victim of the two crooks, traces them and forces them to work on one of his building sites for damages. Just then, Larsan-Bellac resurfaces with plans to lure Ribeiro once again. —Guy Bellinger

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs a classic farcical machine where each plot turn relies on a domino effect of mishaps and coincidences. It explores the eternal comedy of small-time ambitions colliding with grand designs through situational humor and exaggerated archetypes.

What lingers after the final reel is the gentle absurdity of petty schemers trapped in their own web. A lighthearted carnival of minor deceptions that refuses to take itself seriously. — MovieFinder Editorial
