Mine owner William Sharon keeps having his gold shipments held up by a gang of bandits. Sharon hires banker Charles Crocker, who happens to have connections in the Central Pacific Railroad, to build a spur line from Virginia City to Carson City, so that the gold can be shipped by railroad. 🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs a traditional Western narrative around the conflict between progress and the old ways, using the railroad as a central symbol. It relies on familiar archetypes: the strong, silent engineer, the corrupt opposition, and a town divided by change.

Those who tire of overly complex plots will appreciate the straightforward storytelling and well-executed action sequences. What lingers after the credits is the satisfying clash of ideals against the vast frontier. — MovieFinder Editorial
