Manasse
Lelia Cohanovici, a young Jewish woman from the capital, falls passionately for Matei Frunză, a Christian. Her parents, Nissim and Esther, insist she marry their coreligionist Emil Horn. For the ceremony, the family's spiritual patriarch, old Manasse, journeys from Fălticeni. On the wedding day, Lelia flees to Matei. While the family gradually accepts the union, the fanatical Manasse cannot forgive this perceived betrayal of faith. His stubborn resistance becomes a personal crusade, threatening to consume him entirely.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
A poignant study of the chasm between tradition and personal desire, where love is an act of rebellion. The framing emphasizes intimate glances and the weight of silent judgments.
What lingers after viewing is the tragic cost of unwavering dogma. The film offers no simple resolutions, only the sobering truth of a heart broken by its own convictions. — MovieFinder Editorial
