Mark, a teenager from a family of Kosovan refugees, exists in Switzerland in a state doctors diagnose as a coma. His body lies still, but his mind may be awake. His parents refuse to surrender, tending to their son for years, clinging to hope. Their apartment morphs into a sickroom, daily life a ritual of feeding, cleaning, and quiet conversation with one who cannot reply. Then, after many years, something shifts, forcing a reckoning with every diagnosis and the very nature of the reality trapping this family.
