Miser Ebenezer Scrooge barricades himself in his frigid counting-house on Christmas Eve, snarling at carolers and turning away those in need. The spectral form of his long-dead partner, Jacob Marley, materializes before him, shackled by the chains of his own earthly greed. Marley delivers a dire warning: Scrooge must expect three more spirits who will force him to confront the man he was, the man he is, and the grim fate that awaits. What begins as a nightmare for the contemptuous old man transforms into a harrowing voyage through time, laying bare the cold emptiness of a life lived without compassion.
