🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs a classic melodrama on the contrast between forced sacrifice and genuine feeling, relying on the social context as a powerful dramatic backdrop. It explores the theme of dignity, showing how it can be lost in the struggle for survival and reclaimed through desperate resolve.

What lingers after the viewing is a tense journey through the social circles of the early century, where personal happiness becomes a bargaining chip, and the finale leaves a bitter aftertaste and questions about the price of freedom. — MovieFinder Editorial
