His garret is full of rats and he often goes without food. One day, a man on the street takes him for a beer and gives him a coin, which he uses to buy a cat.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The 1913 film constructs a classic rags-to-riches fable, relying on the stark contrast between rural dreams and urban hardship. It explores themes of resilience and unexpected alliances through the silent, yet potent, language of early cinema.
What lingers after the final reel is the charm of a simple moral tale, where fortune favors the kind-hearted. A quaint adventure from cinema's dawn. — MovieFinder Editorial
