The film constructs a solid, traditional western around a triad of duty, friendship, and desire. Director Leslie Fenton relies on the railroad as a central metaphor for conflict and progress, while the central duel explores the painful moral choices that define a man.
Those who tire of flashy action will appreciate the deliberate pacing and character-driven tension. What lingers after the final showdown is a quiet, sobering reflection on loyalty's limits. — MovieFinder Editorial
