Jean de La Fontaine, le défi
Paris, 1661. Jean de La Fontaine, already known for his playful verses, finds himself out of favor at the court of Louis XIV. His patron, Finance Minister Nicolas Fouquet, has been arrested on the king's orders. Left without means and under suspicion, the poet must fight for his place in society and his right to create. His primary weapons are his sharp wit and a pen capable of dressing human vices in elegant allegory. La Fontaine begins work on his famous 'Fables,' risking the wrath of the powerful monarch, yet finding solace in his loyal wife and a handful of friends who believe in his genius.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film offers an intimate yet engaging look at the birth of a literary monument. It is less a tale of court intrigue and more a story of an artist's inner freedom, who, even under pressure, refuses to compromise his gift.
What lingers after the viewing is a sense of quiet intellectual defiance, where every written word becomes a subtle but significant act of courage. It’s a tribute to the enduring power of wit and wisdom. — MovieFinder Editorial
