Конец 19 века. Время бурного промышленного роста, технических изобретений и великих открытий, время авантюристов и больших романтиков. Ещё не покорены Арктика и Антарктика. Группа русских ученых во главе с астрономом Васильевым отправляется на Шпицберген с целью окончательного измерения формы земного шара. На архипелаге начинают происходить загадочные и трагические события. Судьба экспедиции находится на грани срыва. Но Васильев должен закончить начатое дело, даже ценой собственной жизни.
