An empty glass on the windowsill. A letter without a signature. For a man who has lost everything, these are the only clues left. This 2010 comedy follows a down-on-his-luck writer who, after a spectacularly public meltdown, is forced to move back in with his estranged father—a man whose primary hobbies are taxidermy and passive aggression. Their attempt to co-exist becomes a masterclass in dysfunction, a series of escalating pranks and petty grievances that somehow, against all odds, starts to look like a family. It’s a sharp, cringe-worthy, and surprisingly tender story about hitting rock bottom and finding the only person left to blame is yourself.
