Zhao Jun, an ordinary Beijing man, makes a living by portraying other people's emotions as a professional mourner for hire at funerals. His monotonous life is upended when a wealthy businessman hires him for an unusual role: to pose as his wife's lover, fabricating a scandal to expedite a divorce. Jun is thrust into a world of luxury and pretense, but the line between performance and reality begins to blur, especially when he discovers his acting partner is the very woman he has secretly admired.
