Noe Isomura, a young widow, navigates the precarious existence within her late husband's demanding family. While attempting to break a branch from a blooming cherry tree, she is aided by a stranger—a samurai who recognizes her. He is Yaichiro Tezuka, a swordsmanship instructor who once sought her hand in marriage through intermediaries. Their quiet reunion unfolds against a gathering storm: the village's new chief retainer enacts harsh land policies that threaten to devastate the local farmers, forcing both characters to confront where true loyalty lies in a time of social upheaval.
