Thanos and Despina

Katina, a destitute Greek woman, desperately schemes to marry off her shepherd son, Thanos, to Despina, the daughter of a wealthy landowner. Her carefully laid plans collapse when the girl's father, Vlahopoulos, flatly refuses to give his blessing. Against a backdrop of harsh pastoral landscapes, a tale unfolds of social barriers, maternal love, and the clash between proud tradition and human feeling.
