All My Good Countrymen
Seven friends in a small Czech village live through fifteen years together—from the liberation of 1945 to the late 1950s. Their fates intertwine, diverge, and shatter under the wheels of history, collectivization, and shifting political regimes. Butcher František, teacher Josef, innkeeper Ondřej, and the others strive to preserve their humor and humanity in a world where old certainties crumble and new orders demand absolute loyalty. The village becomes a microcosm where personal dramas of love, betrayal, and quiet despair mirror the tragicomedy of an entire era.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Vojtěch Jasný crafts not a political pamphlet but a poetic chronicle of a vanishing world. His camera captures both the beauty of the rural landscape and the grimaces of fear on human faces, while the humor feels less like an escape than a form of quiet resistance.
What lingers after the final reel is the profound melancholy of Chekhovian characters trapped in a Kafkaesque reality. The film refuses to judge, leaving instead a haunting sense of irretrievable loss—of shared humanity crushed under ideology's boot. — MovieFinder Editorial
