Wasp

Zoe, a young mother trapped in poverty on the fringes of London, desperately tries to conceal her circumstances from social services. Her four hungry children trail her to a pub where she has arranged a date. Leaving them outside with a bottle of soda, she promises to return with food. Inside, at a table, she performs the role of a carefree woman, tearing pieces from a sandwich and secretly smuggling them out to her children under the watchful eye of a waitress. Every gesture is a tightrope walk between maternal instinct and social shame, between raw hunger and the need to keep up appearances.
