The Song of Cotton
Mianhua, a young woman from the countryside, takes a job as a live-in caretaker for a retired boxer battling Alzheimer's. Hired by the old man's distrustful daughter, who views all nurses as liars and opportunists, she enters a home filled with tension. Within those walls, an unexpected bond forms between the abandoned fighter and the inexperienced caregiver. As days pass, the boxer's fading memory begins to blur the lines, and he starts to mistake Mianhua for his ex-wife, a woman to whom he feels a profound debt of love. Their fragile, newfound understanding is shattered when Mianhua makes a life-altering discovery: she is pregnant.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
This is a quiet study of memory's erosion and the unexpected bonds that form in its wake. The director resists melodrama, portraying the grit of caregiving and the fog of illness with unflinching authenticity.
What lingers after the credits is not despair, but a profound respect for the dignity that can persist in life's most vulnerable chapters. The performances are restrained yet devastatingly real. — MovieFinder Editorial
