🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Derek Jarman constructs a visual poem, relying on Latin dialogue and minimalist, almost ritualistic scenes of daily life. He explores the tension between the carnal and the spiritual, using sun, sand, and water as elements of an ancient fresco.
What lingers after viewing is a hypnotic, deliberately paced study of repressed desire and religious ecstasy, where cinematic beauty clashes with ritual brutality. — MovieFinder Editorial
