1916 · 93 min Drama
8.0 / 10 · TMDB

Feodor Turov, chief of the Tsar's secret police, dispatches his Cossacks to brutally suppress a village suspected of harboring rebels. The massacre claims nearly every soul, including young Katerina, whipped to death. Her sister Darya escapes to England, swearing a solemn vow of vengeance. Years later, she returns to Russia as a world-renowned prima ballerina. Turov, utterly captivated, secures a meeting. With feigned coyness, Darya requests a tour of a prison first, but her designs for the official are far more terrifying than anything he has planned for her.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

This 1916 silent drama unfolds as a precise mechanism of revenge, where each frame measures a step toward retribution. The film masterfully contrasts the opulence of ballet with the brutal chill of memory, building palpable tension.

What lingers after the final reel is the sophisticated psychological duel, remarkably advanced for its era, where art becomes the weapon and a prison tour serves as the stage for icy, calculated justice. — MovieFinder Editorial
