A Cave Man Wooing

1912 · 12 min
4.0 / 10 · TMDB

George, a somewhat "unathletic" young man, falls for Clarice, a healthy, athletically inclined young woman. Unfortunately for George, however, a strapping, musclebound stud is also after Clarice, and she seems to prefer him to George. After reading an article by a female writer saying that women prefer the "caveman" type of man, George decides that if that what it takes to get Clarice, then that is what he will be.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs its comedy on the contrast between a frail suitor and a muscular rival, exploring early 20th-century stereotypes about masculinity and attraction. It relies on physical humor and exaggeration to satirize the absurd lengths one might go to for love.

What lingers after the final gag is a lighthearted reminder about the folly of pretending to be someone you're not. The simplistic charm of early cinema is fully on display. — MovieFinder Editorial
