American veterinarian Kazuya Uemura arrives at Okinawa's Churaumi Aquarium, where the director insists he work as a keeper—feeding dolphins and cleaning pools—to truly understand them. His routine is shattered when Fuji, a mother dolphin of three, develops tail necrosis. Medicine fails; only amputation can save her life. The surgery succeeds, but Fuji loses her ability to swim. Watching the once-graceful creature struggle, the director's granddaughter Michiru voices a heartbreaking truth: 'A dolphin that can't swim is not a dolphin.'

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film finds its tension not in spectacle, but in the quiet rigor of science and daily care. It observes the aquarium's rhythms with a documentarian's patience, making responsibility itself the central drama.

What lingers after the credits is a profound meditation on interdependence. This is a story where healing is a collective, imperfect act, and dignity is earned through relentless, gentle effort. — MovieFinder Editorial
