El analfabeto
Inocencio Prieto y Calvo holds a letter he cannot read, aware only that it has traveled from afar. At the drugstore, where the pharmacist usually reads for him, he watches a young girl deciphering a newspaper on her own. A resolve sparks within him. He will not have the message revealed by another's voice. Tucking the letter away, he sets off for school, determined to unlock the secret of his inheritance by conquering the written word for the very first time.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film rests on a simple, elegant premise, brought to life by Mario Moreno 'Cantinflas's' nuanced performance. His Inocencio is more than a comic simpleton; he's a man on a quiet, personal quest for dignity. The humor is warm and character-driven, stemming from universal human foibles rather than sharp satire.
What lingers after the final scene is a gentle affirmation of self-improvement. The true inheritance is not the pesos, but the newfound power to claim one's own story. — MovieFinder Editorial
