On 3 April 2004, during the holiday of Ashura, Iraqi rebels loyal to Shiite leader Muktada As-Sadr, launched an insurgency in the Polish zone. The Poles, together with Bulgarian soldiers and Iraqi police, were given the task of defending City Hall, led by Lieutenant colonel Grzegorz Kaliciak. The clash developed into the biggest Polish engagement since World War II. Not a single allied soldier died, although about 80 insurgents were killed in a counter-attack.

The film constructs its relentless tension through gritty, documentary-like realism, relying on tactical detail and claustrophobic framing rather than heroic spectacle. It explores the psychological strain of command and the fragile alliance between soldiers in an alien, hostile environment.
What lingers after the final frame is not glory, but the sobering weight of survival and the deafening silence that follows combat. A stark reminder that in modern warfare, holding a position can be a victory in itself. — MovieFinder Editorial
