Based on 16-year-old writer Sarie Hinakura’s award winning story Jellyfish is centered around two adolescent girls disconnected from their immediate environment of school and mates. They first get together while staring into a jellyfish tank at a local aquarium. The relationship that ensues eventually faces tension from the divergent personalities of the two protagonists, one of whom explores a heterosexual relationship with a fellow student. Jealousy and the wrath of a lover spurned are inevitable spillovers.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs its narrative around the contrast between the delicate, weightless atmosphere of the first connection and the dense, viscous matter of adolescent emotion. It explores that precise moment when intimate understanding collides with the rigid boundaries of self and desire.

What lingers after viewing is the aquarium silence, where every emotional ripple moves in slow motion, and the outcome of the relationship remains as mysterious and fluid as a jellyfish itself. — MovieFinder Editorial
