The Spring Festival
Old worker Cheng and his wife have scrimped and saved all year, dreaming of reuniting their scattered family around the New Year's Eve feast. Yet the long-awaited gathering erupts into a series of confrontations. Their adult children arrive with ledgers of childhood grievances, demanding money for business ventures and apartments, while the grandchildren witness the unravelling of familial bonds. Against a backdrop of fireworks and clinking glasses, decades of resentment, hypocrisy, and cold calculation rise to the surface.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Director Huang Jianxin crafts a scathing social panorama where the festival is merely a backdrop for settling scores. The camera coldly captures greedy glances, nervous gestures, and counterfeit smiles, assembling them into a universal parable about the erosion of tradition.
What lingers after the credits is the bitter realization that the same ruthless marketplace exists under one's own roof. The film strikes a profound chord, forcing a reckoning with the price of familial bonds. — MovieFinder Editorial
