The Punishment

Manolache Preda, a Romanian peasant, trudges back to his native village at the end of the Great War. The peace he fought for is shattered upon arrival: the woman he left behind is now with another man, and the ancestral plot he dreamed of reclaiming has been sold to the local landowner. A stranger in his own home, crushed by a double betrayal, he must navigate the harsh realities of a post-war rural world. His desperate struggle to reclaim what was stolen becomes a quiet, visceral battle against entrenched power and a society forever altered by conflict.
