Dad for Rent

2014 · 112 min Comedy Drama Family
7.2 / 10 · TMDB

Sergey, a family man, has long given up job hunting, settling comfortably into the role of a househusband supported by his weary wife. His days of idleness are disrupted when his daughter Katya decides to monetize his laziness by listing him for rent on a secondhand website as a “dad for hire.” To his surprise, the service gains traction, forcing him to play the perfect father figure for other people’s children. Through these awkward, often humorous encounters, Sergey begins to confront his own shortcomings and re-evaluate what it means to be a present parent in his own home.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film walks a fine line between lighthearted comedy and domestic drama, never slipping into heavy-handed sermonizing. Ivan Okhlobystin delivers a nuanced performance as the “professional dad” whose sarcastic shield slowly cracks to reveal genuine care.

What lingers after the credits is a gentle reminder that we sometimes need to play a part for others before we can heal ourselves. A straightforward, feel-good story about finding purpose in unexpected places. — MovieFinder Editorial
