Sons of the Soil
In Iceland, the pride and honour of one’s family mean everything. Ørlygur á Borg is the most powerful man in the parish, and his son Ormarr is a man of action with a firm sense of justice, predestined to follow in his father’s footsteps. However, Ormarr has other plans for his life, and when one day he sets out for Copenhagen to study, his tyrannical brother takes advantage of the situation, seizing the farm and the role of ruler in the parish. 🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film constructs an epic tale of familial legacy and personal rebellion, relying on the stark contrast between Iceland's rugged landscapes and Copenhagen's urbanity. It explores the timeless conflict between duty and desire through the powerful visual language of silent cinema.
What lingers after viewing is the tragic grandeur of a man caught between his roots and his aspirations. The film's emotional force is amplified by its stark, beautiful imagery. — MovieFinder Editorial
