2010 Drama
6.2 / 10 · TMDB

Nicole Wagner finds out by chance that her son cannot be the son she once fathered with the scaffolder Grille. Nine years ago there was a mix-up with an infant named Sebastian, the son of the academic couple Callenberg, who live at the other end of Freiburg in very different circumstances to Nicole and Grille in their middle-class environment. Grille is inquisitive about the unknown son, unlike Nicole, who is very upset, as are Sven and Britta Callenberg. But what can be done? But their thoughts about their biological son do not subside...

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

Director Andreas Dresen constructs the drama on a subtle psychological contrast between two social worlds, employing a minimalist, chamber-style approach. He explores not loud scandals but the quiet, corrosive anxiety of everyday life, relying on the impeccable acting of the ensemble cast.

What lingers after the viewing is a prolonged contemplation on the nature of parental love and family bonds, presented through an ethically complex situation devoid of easy answers. — MovieFinder Editorial
