🎬 MovieFinder's Take

Director Otto Rippert constructs a silent narrative that relies on the stark contrast between visual opulence and moral decay. It explores divine retribution, using the allegorical figures of Death and Plague as a punishing force that blurs the line between historical drama and eerie horror.

What lingers after viewing is a hypnotic parable about the price of corruption. The film's symbolic imagery creates a lasting sense of decadence and inevitable doom. — MovieFinder Editorial
