Lilly unter den Linden
This film is the story of a 13-year-old girl from Hamburg who, after the death of her mother, wants to travel to her aunt Lena and her family - her only living relatives - in Jena. Crossing the inner-German border in 1988, even from West to East, is very difficult. When Lilly finally manages to make the detour via Berlin, she realizes that not everyone in her aunt's family is happy about it. There is a secret in the family that has to do with her mother.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film constructs a poignant drama through the lens of a child's perspective, exploring not just the political barriers of a divided Germany but the emotional walls within a family. It relies on the subtle performance of its young lead to portray the fragility of hope and the complex search for belonging in a fractured world.
What lingers after the credits is a quiet melancholy and a gentle nostalgia for an era where personal and historical tragedies were inextricably linked. It's a look at the past without grand political statements, yet full of human warmth. — MovieFinder Editorial
