The Herdsman

Xu Lingjun, branded a 'rightist' for his capitalist father's legacy, has spent decades as a humble herdsman on the Inner Mongolian grasslands. His harsh existence is transformed by his marriage to the kind and resilient Xiuzhi. When his long-lost father—a wealthy Chinese-American businessman—suddenly reappears in 1980, he offers Lingjun a life in San Francisco and leadership of his chemical empire. Confronted with this dizzying opportunity, Lingjun must weigh filial duty and promised prosperity against his deep bonds to the land and the simple, profound happiness he has built with Xiuzhi.
