Joachim, Put It in the Machine

1974 · 95 min Comedy
7.2 / 10 · TMDB

Frantisek Koudelka, a sincere young man from the provinces, arrives in Prague for work. Before his departure, he purchases a computer-generated horoscope with a biorhythm chart, marking treacherous, precarious, unsuccessful, and even critical days, with only a handful of favorable ones. This clumsy, perpetually unlucky fellow finally has a guide for life. He begins to consult the machine's predictions for every move, from conversations with his boss to meeting women. His existence becomes an absurd dance between attempting to outwit fate on 'critical' days and grasping at fleeting luck during rare 'successful' periods.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film expertly walks the line between light comedy and subtle satire of a society beginning to trust technology blindly. The director doesn't judge his hero but observes with warmth and irony as he tries to systematize life's chaos with pseudoscience.

What lingers after the credits is a witty parable about seeking simple solutions for the complex questions of human existence. You'll ponder how free your own choices are from internal 'biorhythms' of fear and hope. — MovieFinder Editorial
