🎬 MovieFinder's Take
The film constructs its narrative through a powerful contrast: the fragility of childhood against the brutality of war, a personal story set against a vast historical backdrop. It relies on visual expressiveness and conciseness, exploring themes of sacrifice and the cost of freedom through the fate of a single child.
Those who tire of verbose historical epics will find a poignant, image-driven story. What lingers after viewing is a sense of bitter poetry and respect for early cinema's attempt to grapple with national identity. — MovieFinder Editorial
