Summer of Ubume
Kyogokudo, a used book dealer and hereditary onmyouji occultist, is drawn into a bizarre case by his friend Sekiguchi. A woman has been pregnant for twenty months. The investigation falls to detective Enokizu, who possesses the rare ability to see people's memories. Hired by the pregnant woman's sister to find her missing husband, they unravel a web of family secrets rooted in wartime trauma. The deeper they dig, the more a legendary child-stealing spirit, the Ubume, seems to manifest. Only Kyogokudo's esoteric arts can confront the ancient curse haunting the household.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Director Akio Jissoji crafts a meticulously slow-burn thriller where the supernatural seeps into the detective procedural. The horror lies not in jump scares, but in the unsettling distortion of time, memory, and biological reality.
What lingers after the credits roll is a profound sense of existential dread, a puzzle where the pieces of truth are themselves fractured. It’s a haunting meditation on trauma and the ghosts of history that possess the living. — MovieFinder Editorial
