Ferdie's wife is fox-trot crazy, wanting to go dancing all the time. To get out of it, Ferdie fakes an ankle injury. Rather than face his mother-in-law, Ferdie admits he was faking his injury, and tears up the letter.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs a classic situational comedy, relying on the universal dread of a mother-in-law's visit and a husband's desperation to avoid a tedious pastime. It explores the escalation of a simple white lie through exaggerated pantomime and rapid pacing, leading to an absurdly swift resolution.

What lingers after viewing is the cheerful acknowledgment that the cure can be worse than the disease. The film delivers a brisk, amusing lesson on how a planned escape can quickly become a trap of one's own making. — MovieFinder Editorial
