Durban Poison

2013 · 93 min
5.7 / 10 · TMDB

Twenty seven years after his UCLA graduate thesis film Shot Down was banned in his home country and went on to festival acclaim and cult status, writer-director Andrew Worsdale returns with this noir romance set among the marginalised white underclass. The film follows a police investigation into four murders and charts the doomed romance of the outlaw lovers. A deeply romantic, elegiac and universal crime story where the murders are not the point of the movie.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

Andrew Worsdale constructs a narrative that relies on the tension between a methodical police investigation and the passionate, chaotic world of the outlaw lovers. The film explores not the crime's mechanics, but the existential despair and romantic yearning at society's fringes.

What lingers after viewing is a deeply melancholic and visually arresting mood, a love story that resonates far beyond its criminal framework. — MovieFinder Editorial
