🎬 MovieFinder's Take
Rossellini constructs a monumental historical fresco, relying on documentary precision and epic scale. The film explores not just the battles, but the political machinery behind the birth of a nation, using vast crowds to convey the true scope of the Expedition of the Thousand.
What lingers after the viewing is a sense of witnessing history in motion, where Garibaldi's personal sacrifice yields to the inexorable tide of national unification. A sober and grand chronicle of a defining moment. — MovieFinder Editorial
