5.5 / 10 · TMDB

A father, anxious for his son's financial well being, develops a special soda pop called Dopokoke which is laced with cocaine. Dopokoke is advertised as relief "for that tired feeling." The drink is a success, but the son becomes addicted to it, much to his father's regret. Loosely based on the allegations that the Coca-Cola company and other soft drink manufacturers laced their soda with dope.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs a stark moral fable, relying on the stark contrast between a father's ambition and the unintended addiction it breeds in his own son. It explores the invisible dangers of commercial success with the direct, economical language of early silent cinema.

What lingers after viewing is a potent, cautionary tale about the blind pursuit of prosperity, its concise narrative delivering a surprisingly enduring ethical punch. — MovieFinder Editorial
