Gussle's Wayward Path

1915 · 13 min Comedy
5.0 / 10 · TMDB

Gussle (Syd Chaplin) comes home with a cute little dog but doesn't want the wife to see it--leading up to a rather funny bit you'll have to see for yourself. The marriage, at first, seems ideal and Gussle and his wife seem devoted. However, it soon seems that this is an act for Syd and it's obvious he's quite the philanderer. Eventually, the wife catches on and sets out to catch him--leading to a rather cute and unexpected ending.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The short film constructs a classic comedic premise around the contrast between domestic bliss and secret mischief. It relies on expressive silent-era pantomime and gags stemming from the hidden dog and Syd's philandering.

What lingers after the final reel is the charm of its playful execution and a genuinely sweet, reconciling twist that delivers the laughs. — MovieFinder Editorial
