Shoppen

2007 · 91 min Comedy Drama
6.0 / 10 · TMDB

An almost bombproof method of staying single is called "speed dating". 18 people participate in such an event. Nine men and nine women are sitting opposite each other in order to sell optimally under the pressure of time and to find a partner. They are looking for a date - and have nothing else in common. They talk about allergies, cappuccino, consumer behavior, buses and designer clothes: the list of serious embarrassments is long. Yet none of the lonely hearts has given up the hope of romance.

🎬 MovieFinder's Take

The film constructs its narrative around the sharp observation of a social ritual, exploring the absurd and touching naivety of searching for love via a template. It relies on the speed-dating format as a magnifying glass for loneliness and the desperate need for connection.

What lingers after the credits is a blend of bitter irony and unexpected empathy for these characters, whose clumsy attempts to be liked reveal universal human anxieties. A poignant comedy about modern isolation. — MovieFinder Editorial
