Another Day in the Metal Box

2008. In a small Ukrainian town, Borys, an ordinary factory worker, tries not to lose his childhood dream of becoming an actor. As war begins in Georgia and his coworkers listen to the news, Borys continues his shifts, reads a book on acting, and uses the factory computer room in search of a way out. One day, he finds a casting announcement: a foreign director is looking for authentic faces for a film to be shot in Ukraine. With the help of Yara, a girl from accounting who treats him with quiet warmth, Borys records the first casting tape of his life. Their feelings for each other remain almost unspoken. After a failed attempt to film himself at home and an uneasy encounter with Ihor, a childhood friend who has become a film producer, Borys returns to a strange cubic structure hidden in an abandoned workshop. The cube becomes a portal to another reality — one where he is an actor, Yara is by his side, and the world has turned toward the future he dreamed of.
