Hobson's Choice

Henry Hobson, a stubborn and domineering boot shop owner in Victorian Salford, views his three daughters as burdens and refuses to let them marry to avoid paying dowries. His eldest daughter, the formidable Maggie, has other plans. She seizes control of her own destiny by proposing to the shop's talented but timid bootmaker, Willie Mossop. Together, they forge a rival business, challenging Hobson's authority and the rigid social conventions of the era with wit and determination.
