Violent Life

Tommaso Puzzilli drifts through the sun-baked streets of Pietralata, a Roman suburb where idleness is a prison and opportunity a mirage. With no job prospects, he and his friends fill their empty days with petty crimes—quick, desperate grabs for cash and a fleeting sense of power. Their world is one of concrete, dust, and simmering frustration, a landscape far removed from Italy's postwar economic boom. Each theft or scuffle is a raw assertion of existence, a violent punctuation in the long, monotonous sentence of their marginalized lives.
